The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) of the Postgraduate Centre (PGC) anchored the first Postgraduate 3-Minutes Thesis Challenge (3MTC) at the Performing Arts Theatre of Management and Science University (MSU). Under the overarching theme of ‘Innovations Shaping Tomorrow’, the programme pursued to evaluate the student’s competency to comprehensively communicate their ideas in just three minutes through persuasive discourse on their thesis topic and its cruciality in language appropriation to a non-specialist audience.

Conducted in both physical and virtual modes, the flagship programme yielded an exclusive platform for the dissemination of cutting-edge ideas, practices, and research findings for the advancement of natural sciences, engineering and technology, medical health sciences, and agricultural sciences. This year, a total of thirty-five presenters participated in this event.

 

 

 

 

The judges for the 3MCT were Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Asif Iqbal Hajamydeen, his area of expertise in Computer Networks and Security; Dr. Muhammad Jefri Mohd Yusof in Forensic Science; Dr. Nur Najmi Mohamad Anuar of University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Non-Communicable Diseases; Dr. Khairunnisa’ Md Yusof in Molecular Medicine; and Dr. Mohammad Khusni Ahmad Amin in Cancer Biology.

Siti Nursyahirah Bakar (MSU) emerged as the winner for the Best Oral Presenter - Medical & Health Science for her thesis titled Targeting Tropomyosin Kinase C Receptor Expressing Cancer Cells Through Synthetic Ligand Conjugate and Cyclophosphamide for Immunotherapy. Best Oral Presenter – Technology was championed by Pan Swee Qi of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) for Amide Proton Transfer Magnetic Resonance Imaging (APT MRI) as a Better Imaging Modality for Brain Tumor Treatment Monitoring.

The presentation on Tobacco Endgame Strategy: So Long Tobacco, Hello Fresher Lungs earned Ayman Norudin (MSU) the Best Oral Presentation for Undergraduate category. For the virtual category, the Best Oral Presentation was awarded to Hajera Thakur (MSU) for her promising thesis on Non-Destructive Characterisation of Lip Cosmetics Using Attenuated Total Reflectance Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy with Chemometrics. In the category of Most Voted Award via Social Media, Khew Jong Mei took home the prize for her thesis presentation on Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Myopia Management in South-East Asia.

 

 

Associate Professor Dr. Norshafarina Shaari, the Dean of the SGS, and Dr. Nurul Azira Ismail, the Programme Director of 3MCT, honoured the awardees.

Industrial talks by sponsors Musfirah Mustaffa (IT Tech Research (M) Sdn. Bhd) on Technical Specialist Job and Skills, Sheremen Chow (Parfumeur Co) on the History of Perfume, and Kok Hoe Eng (Royal Global Sdn Bhd) on Life Science and Laboratory Needs in New Era provided insightful sharing on the dynamics of their enterprises. Along with them, Afrina Batrisya and Adriana Darwisha (Afrinawinx & Adrianawish) sponsored the programme.
