Once more, a surge of crimson enthusiasm swept through Chancellor Hall at Management and Science University (MSU), symbolising the vigour, dedication, and earnest commitment to the values of scholarship, citizenship, excellence, and good conduct during the MSU Oath-Taking Ceremony (OTC) in the late October afternoon. This prestigious event united 2,400 students from various faculties and intake periods in July and September 2023 as they collectively pledged their unwavering pursuit of excellence, led by MSU’s Students and Career Development.

 

 

Leading with the most number of new MSUrians from both intakes was the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP) at 631; followed by the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS) at 525, the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE) at 428, the International Medical School (IMS) at 300, the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) at 218, the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) at 203, and the School of Pharmacy (SPH) at 95.

 

 

 

This cohort consisted of 283 international students hailing from a wide array of nations, such as China, Indonesia, Bahrain, the Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, the Seychelles, Sudan, Egypt, France, Iraq, Mozambique, Pakistan, Tanzania, Yemen, and Zimbabwe.

 

 

 

The crowd was greeted and introduced to the essential aspects of becoming a holistic, well-rounded, and balanced individual by MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.

The afternoon was not exclusively earmarked for pledging the pursuit of excellence. MSU’s mission includes helping students discover and develop their latent abilities so that they can shine brightly in the world. Holistic, balanced, and well-rounded individuals are not solely gauged by their academic accomplishments but by the enthusiasm and confidence they harbour and refine over their journey at the University, regardless of the breadth of their talent. The OTC gave both incoming and current students at MSU a chance to show off their musical and dance prowess.

The SCD clubs and associations showcasing their talents at the OTC included the Korean Cultural Association (KCA), Indian Cultural Association (ICA), and Performing Arts and Cultural Club (PACC), both modern and traditional. The event also features several stunning solo and duet performances.

 

 

 

 

 

Nurirdina Nawwarah Mohd Nazri, pursuing a Bachelor in Creative Multimedia at FISE, and Iffah Ilyana Su’ud, who is studying a Diploma in Games Design and Animation at FISE, delivered a harmonious duet performance of Haruman Terindah by Lokman Naufal. In addition, Mohd Nor Syazwan Mohd Mahyuddin, enrolled in the Bachelor in Education (Health and Physical Education) programme at SESS, showcased his rap skills in a collaboration for the song Sumpah by Naim Daniel. Sing Chun Leong, currently working towards a Diploma in Education—Teaching English as Second Language (TESL) at SESS, rendered both Sial by Mahalini and Listen by Beyonce. Elevating the energy of the audience with her captivating performances of What Was I Made For by Billie Eilish and I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston was Angellisa Isaac, a student in the Foundation (Science Biology/Health Science) programme at IMS.

 

 

Syed Aniq Aqil, enrolled in the Diploma in Music Technology (DMZ) programme at SHCA, led a band performance of Sempurna by Insomniacks. Racheal Kew Khai Xuan and Natania Sagain, both pursuing a DMZ, along with Ter Ting Li (studying a Bachelor Biomedical Science at IMS) and Puteri Nurul Ain Lokman (pursuing a Diploma in Education—Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) at SESS), delivered a diverse performance featuring Caklempong, keyboard, cello, and vocals for Lemak Manis by Roslan Madun. The soulful duet of You Are the Reason by Calum Scott was performed by Nurul Balqis Muner, a student in the Bachelor in International Business programme at FBMP, and Dhamir Harith, enrolled in the Diploma in Logistics Management at FBMP, captivated the audience with renditions of Duo Anggrek’s Cikini Gongdangdia and Rossa’s Terlalu Cinta. On top of that, 13 students from the Henan University of Chinese Medicine in China, who are on their journey towards a Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (BTCM) at SPH, delivered a track.

The July intake top student accolade was conferred upon Puteri Ain Nabila Mohd Azman, who is enrolled in a Bachelor of Public Relations Management from SESS.

The Best Student Award for September intake was secured by Muhammad Vynner Phuah Ten Fu, pursuing a Foundation in Engineering and Technology from FISE; Anys Ilham Nabiella Mohd Isa, undertaking a Bachelor in International Business from FBMP; and Showbhitha Krishnan, in pursuit of a Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from IMS.

Moustafa Bathich, pursuing a Bachelor in Games Design and Animation from FISE; Samidi Ruwanya Cooray, studying for a Bachelor in International Business from FBMP; Maryam Mohanad Ahmed, working towards a Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from IMS, won awards in the Best International Student category.

An Yikun, working towards a Bachelor in Traditional Chinese Medicine (BTCM) from SPH, won the Best HUCM Student award for the September intake.

The best faculty for the Engagement Day July intake goes to FHLS, while SHCA is for the September intake.

The oath-taker was Liu Wentian, an international student currently enrolled in the BTCM programme at SPH. Furthermore, he is concurrently working on a dual degree at HUCM in China.

Ahmad Raquiem Ahmad Tajuddin Fazirkilhakim, a progression student from a Diploma in Human Capital Management to a Bachelor in Human Capital Management at FBMP, led the Vote of Thanks and delivered the appreciation speech.

The ceremony also saw the participation of Datuk Dr. Junainah Abd Hamid, Vice Chancellor; Halijah Hassan, Director of SCD; Dato’ Sharifah Huda Engku Muda, Senior Vice President for Administration & Human Capital; Dato’ Rosli Yusof, Senior Vice President Endowment & Communication; Deans; and the senior management team of MSU.
