A non-compromising healthcare service sustains and supports both people and environmental health. The rapid climate change demands a sustainable transformation; the healthcare service is not an exception to this fast-paced alteration plaguing our world to enormous resource consumption in the years to come. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), an alternative treatment existing for more than a thousand years, is slowly finding its way to one of the primary healthcare services. It is a belief among the ancient Chinese that, in this vast universe, humans are microcosms and are interlinked with nature and its forces. The key concept is the balance between one’s health and disease—between internal body organs and the external elements of wood, metal, water, fire, and earth.

As one of the few higher institutions to offer TCM courses and affiliated with TCM universities in China, MSU’s School of Pharmacy combines biomedical sciences with traditional and complementary medicinal practices in an interdisciplinary approach to teaching TCM, with excellent links with major national and international organisations worldwide.

With the prime goals of carrying out the inheritance research and innovation development and promoting the international exchange of Zhongjing academics, the launching of the 6th Zhongjing Academic Conference & Forum, co-organised by the ZhongJing Inheritance and Innovation Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), Management and Science University (MSU), and China-Malaysia Zhang ZhongJing Chinese Medicine Center convened at the Performing Arts Theatre (PAT) of MSU.

Established in 2018, the Zhongjing Academic Conference and Forum was initiated and organized by Henan University of Chinese Medicine (HUCM). In 2023, this marks the institute’s first global endeavor to organize the event worldwide, with MSU serving as the host institution. Over nearly a decade of partnership, collaborations between MSU and HUCM have given rise to the Joint Institute MSU & HUCM, the Double Degree Programme for a Bachelor in Traditional Chinese Medicine, research collaborations for a multi-center clinical trial – with MSU Medical Center (MSUMC) being one of the clinical trial centers – an official offshore Chinese Medicine Center at MSUMC, staff exchanges, and student mobility programs.

Welcoming all the officials and delegations from HUCM and officiating the conference was MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.

“MSU has been highly committed to developing TCM since the establishment of the programmes in 2013. A comprehensive and multifaceted ecosystem is branched out into three main components: academic, clinical, and research collaboration, which are the fundamental approaches carried out to produce industry-ready graduates. On behalf of the University, I would like to thank all for their commitment, good practices, and willingness to expand the realms of TCM worldwide.”
