Decked out in vibrant Batik and adorned in traditional garments representing the colourful diversity of Malaysia and the hues of the Jalur Gemilang, a gathering of two thousand, seven hundred and fifty MSUrians assembled to grace the MyDay Closing Ceremony 2023. Hosted by the Students and Career Development (SCD), the event took unfolded at the Chancellor Hall of Management and Science University (MSU), commemorating the various programmes conducted over the course of more than a month. Attending this jubilant celebration were members of the MSU community from the main campus, MSU Colleges, MSU Learning Centres, MSU Bangalore, and MSU Medical Centre (MSUMC).

The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome by Nurul Balqis Muner of Bachelor in International Business (FBMP) with Gemilang, Puteri Nurul Ain of Diploma in Education – TESL (SESS) with Korban, Dhamir Harith of Diploma in Logistics Management (FBMP) with One Moment in Time, Borneo, traditional ethnic dance.

Elevating the afternoon through a captivating visual spectacle was Tarian Piring – a traditional dance typically performed in the states of Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, and Selangor - by Performing Arts and Cultural Club (PACC). Characterised by the use of the plates and saucers held in each hand, the dancers skilfully manipulated and balanced the plates while performing intricate footwork and choreographed movements.

Reciting a heartfelt Sajak, were Purnama Batriasyia Nora Samsudin currently pursuing a Bachelor in Cardiovascular Technology at FHLS; Muhammad Alif Affendy Mohammad Azharuddin on the path to a Diploma in Games Design and Animation from FISE; Vanishaa Sachethananthan, in the process of earning a Bachelor of Counselling and Guidance from SESS; and Anuar Rezo, a staff member from (FBMP).

MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid took centre stage, passionately addressing the ceremony attendees with his inspiring words and then seamlessly transitioning to officiating the closing ceremony.

“Today, we unite to build a brighter future for all. Our goal: a thriving, united nation that fosters happiness and embraces diversity. Together, we will nurture cultural competence, elevating all of us to greatness. We reject extremism, choosing harmony and understanding for a better tomorrow. Let us forge this path together, bound by our shared vision and commitment to a prosperous, inclusive society.”

Malaysia Day is a celebration that embraces individuals of all generations, regardless of their age, race, or religious beliefs. It places a strong emphasis on acknowledging that the younger generation will be the successors shaping our nature’s future. This accentuates the importance of concentrating on their development and welfare. Highlighting this through a gimmick were MSU Kids and representatives from the MSU Wataniah Club of SCD.

In the essence of the ceremony’s theme, which aimed to celebrate Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity, six outstanding MSUrians were selected to represent their respective ethnicities in the best-dressed category. The winners include:

Yong Sufia Adnan, staff at the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SCHA), dressed in a stunning Baju Kebaya; Yong An Nie from the International Medical School (IMS), elegantly attired in Cheongsam; Vishnuvardan Arumugam from the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE), looking splendid in Kurta and Veshti; Xavier Alexander from the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS), showcasing modern Gaung attire; Abigail Vivian from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), beautifully dressed in Ngepan Iban; and Aljazi Mazen Altamimi from FHLS resplendent in traditional Bahrain attire were the chosen winners.

A celebration comes to life with vibrant performances, and MSUrians showcased their multi-talented abilities to keep the audience engaged. Priestly Ivan Noah Simon a Bachelor of Public Relations Management student from SESS and Nor Nabilah Mahyuddin pursuing a Diploma in Medical and Health Science from FHLS, delighted the crowd with renditions of original Sabahan and Sarawakian tunes. The Indian Cultural Association (ICA) of SCD graced the event with a captivating Bharatanatyam dance performance, a visual delight for all. Ting Shan Ming a student in Bachelor in Education – TESL at SESS, sang a Mandarin version of Rasa Sayang, adding a unique twist to the performance. Dawson Bonaventure studying Bachelor in Games Design and Animation at FISE, brought the audience closer to A Million Dreams with his engaging performance. Priestly Ivan Noah Simon returned, this time partnering with Sing Chun Leong, a student pursuing a Diploma in Education – TESL, to render Sehati Sejiwa showcasing their musical harmony. Hazwani Supaat a staff member from Purchasing Department delivered a beautiful rendition of Warisan, along with two talented guitarists.

A heartfelt and joyous rendition of Saya Anak Malaysia by the entire MSU community in Chancellor Hall served as a fitting conclusion, offering a gracious send-off to the Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebration for the year 2023.
