MSU’s medal-winning inventions and innovations in PERINTIS 2018

Health Sciences, Medical, Pharmaceutical leads medal haul; Future Vision, Maca Delima grab PERINTIS special awards 

 

 

 

Health Sciences, Medical, Pharmaceutical brought in a total of twenty-one medals to MSU along with the PERINTIS 2018 Best Commercial Potential Award; Education follows with eight, and Engineering Technology and Innovation with six plus the PERINTIS Best Young Inventor Award.


Grabbing the PERINTIS Best Young Inventor Award is Engineering Technology and Innovation gold medalist Future Vision. The project led by Dr Safaa Najah Saud presents a smart and affordable technology for the visually impaired. A navigation tool comprising smart stick, hat and shoes, it can detect obstacles, be set on GPS coordinates to 'home' and 'work', send emergency SMSes, and sync with a smartphone. It also costs some 20% lower than similar products in the market.

The PERINTIS Best Commercial Potential Award is bagged by Health Sciences, Medical, Pharmaceutical silver medalist Kopi Maca Delima. The 8-in-1 instant coffee invented as a herbal health beverage with pomegranate, maca powder, and dates had taken innovators Dr Zulhabri, Dr Rosjulila, and Dr Norwahidah four years from formulation and research to commercialization. The product is selling at selected halal supermarkets, co-operatives, agents, and stockists, as well as exported to Brunei, Indonesia, and Singapore.
