Teachers are the heart of education, opening doors to worlds of knowledge. In Malaysia, May 16 commemorates their contribution to educating the children of the nation. Why do we celebrate Teacher’s Day?  We have the best reasons!

Happy Teacher’s Day from MSU!

It puts teaching in the spotlight

UNESCO statistics indicate that by 2030 we will be at least 25 million teachers short to offer every child a primary education.

So, although there seems to be so many teachers around already, we actually need more!

To help improve the statistics, MSU offers many specializations in our educational programmes including Physical Health, Visual Art, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, TESL, and Early Childhood Education to produce excellent teachers with various backgrounds and knowledge (a number of 191 excellent teachers graduated from MSU at the recent MSU Convo 22).

Celebrating Teacher’s Day shines a spotlight on the facts and figures related to the teaching profession, an annual situation check to spur corrective actions and solutions.

It builds teacher competency

In MSU, Early Childhood Education students are often exposed to real life working experience through programmes in collaboration with MSU Kids. This kind of exposure is important to train them into competent teachers because teachers are the ones shaping children’s most formative years.

The celebration of Teacher’s Day comes with seminars and conferences that help teachers build on their existing competencies.

Communication skills are topmost in a teacher’s competencies list, and mediums such as forums make fantastic platforms.

It motivates excellence

In Malaysia, Teacher’s Day celebrates the best teachers with national awards, and this year the Innovative Teacher Award joins the Excellent Teacher Award and Excellent Contribution Award.

This positive reinforcement is continued at MSU by rewarding our lecturers with awards such as Best Academician, Best Knowledge Transfer Programme, Best Teaching and Delivery Effort, Best Entrepreneurial Effort, Best Researcher, President Award of Recognition, etc.

These kinds of awards give educators the recognition they deserve and motivate them to strive for excellence.

Acknowledging the country’s teachers is also one of the objectives of our national Teacher’s Day celebration.

While it is important to celebrate your teachers on this special day, you should always remember to thank them and appreciate them every day, because without them, we cannot be who we are today!

At MSU, a holistic curriculum ensures that our teachers-to-be graduate with well-rounded training, and a huge focus on excellence keeps the quality of the training in check.
