The MSU Chinese Culture Society (CCS) together with the Student and Career Development (SCD) Department of Management and Science University (MSU) presented an afternoon of cultural celebration at MSU Chancellor Hall last Wednesday.

 

Commemorating the Year of the Tiger, which this Chinese New Year arrived on February 2, the celebration wished all present with the customary shouts of Heng Ah! Ong Ah! Huat Ah!

 

Tuned in online were ten branches of MSU College nationwide, Anyang Normal University, and Henan University of Chinese Medicine, who had representative Guo Yijun from the Bachelor in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Hons) programme at the School of Pharmacy (SPH) deliver a few words on campus in Shah Alam Section 13.

 

Sustainability and unity were the main themes, as informed by CCS President Ang Zi Xin from the Bachelor in Entrepreneurship (Hons) programme at the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP), evident respectively in the deco and the competitions.

 

 

 

A bamboo sapling was presented to MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, and two boats by the side of the stage signified the closing of CNY and their carrying of the day’s audience to the event coming up in due course – the Dragon Boat Festival.

 

 

Entertainment was provided by a Lion Dance troupe, performers from various programmes, and MSU’s own Performing Arts and Culture Club (PACC).

 

 

MSU’s CNY 2022’s online competition Selfie with DIY Craft presented Rubashini Malar Elam Parithy of Bachelor in Law and Commerce (Hons) in first place, Wan Nur Aina Nabila MiorAzhar of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology in second place, and Chan Khuai Man of Bachelor in Graphic Design (Hons) in third place.

 

Ink Wash Painting competition had winners Nurin Syauqinna from the Bachelor in Biomedical Science (Hons) programme, Mohamed El-Farabib.Zulkarnaini from the Bachelor in Psychology (Hons) programme, and Chan Foon Yi from the Bachelor in Game Design and Animation (Hons) programme respectively receiving their prizes in first, second, and third place.

 

Chopstick Fortune competition had Yong Jun Xian of Bachelor in Music Technology (Hons) announced as the first winner, Dayang Nur Sabryna of Bachelor in Cardiovascular Technology (Hons) as the second, and Paritheran Aibabdu of Diploma in Education (TESL) as the third.

 

Receiving prizes for their Calligraphy efforts were Chen Wai Wen in first place, Loke Heuy Shyan in second place, and Annisa Nur Fazri in third place; respectively from MSU’s Bachelor in Investment Management (Hons), Foundation in Medical Sciences, and Bachelor in International Business (Hons) programmes.

 

Winter Solstice Video competition had students of MSU’s Bachelor in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Hons) programme at the School of Pharmacy (SPH) bagging all the prizes; in first place a short story on the History of Dumpling by Tian Shenao, Wang Ying Xia, Liu Boya, Wen Xiaolei, Ji Yijia, Cheng Jiawei, Xue Peihao, LiXiang, Liu Lujuan, and Xia Minglian; in second place a painting of Plum Bloom in the Winter by Han Yi; and in third place a choir of the Winter Solstice song by Wu Xiaozhen, Xue Hanyu, Ding Liuyuan, Yang Yifan, An Hongsa, and Yu Yiwen.

 

 

The customary tossing of the raw-fish salad Yee Sang (also, Yusheng, Yuu Sahng, or Lo Sahng) was joined in by members of the MSU Management Team and the Student Representatives Council (SRC).

 

 

In the spirit of intercultural understanding, here are some phrases and their meaning which you can learn to use with the ingredients you are adding to the Yee Sang. Let’s hear you shout them out at the next Chinese New Year celebration!
